"This is exactly what the Fibre Channel industry needed - a low cost, simple method to increase SAN market penetration," said Steve Duplessie, founder and senior analyst, Enterprise Storage Group. "We view this as a brilliant move that users will be more than willing to grasp on to. This takes cost and complexity out the equation, and gives users the ability to reap all of the benefits of a Fibre Channel storage network."

"High costs, interoperability questions and cumbersome installation issues are among the reasons small businesses have held off on Fibre Channel SAN implementation," said Dan Tanner, senior analyst, Storage & Storage Management, Aberdeen Group, Inc. "One vendor, Qlogic, is producing and packaging all the connectivity pieces at a very reasonable price. That simplifies storage networking and can help customers realize all the benefits of the SAN."
