Network Appliance, Inc. , provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, today debuted its first multiprocessor storage appliances, the NetApp F880 and F880c, which it says are ideal for large databases, ERP, corporate-wide home directory consolidation, and other mission-critical applications.
According to the company, it supports up to 18TBs(a) of storage and further extends NetApp capabilities within the data center, offering customers greater flexibility to deploy large, easily managed global network infrastructures and to begin building global data fabrics.
By transparently utilizing multiprocessor functionality, Network Appliance said the F880 improves system performance and consolidates larger workloads within the same physical and administrative footprint as previous NetApp filers. The new CompactFlash(TM) boot system replaces the floppy drive, increasing system autonomy and virtually eliminating the need for hands-on administration. Network Appliance further eases administrative loading and simplifies the user experience by utilizing the same operating system and file system across the entire product line.
"Data centers are evolving and expanding with storage requirements growing exponentially. Enterprises need solutions that can keep up with these demands," said Randy Kerns at Evaluator Group. "Industry leaders like Network Appliance are developing storage appliances that deliver the highest levels of performance and reliability. The introduction of the F880 and F880c, the first multi-processor filers in the NetApp product suite, further build out the range of storage solutions they offer."
"Network Appliance is continuing to expand its Center-to-Edge solutions to encompass the demanding requirements of large enterprise customers. High-performance, scalable storage is a key building block for global data architectures, but high performance typically comes with a price-increased IT resources to manage the added complexity. The NetApp F880 filer series boosts storage performance significantly, while simultaneously decreasing the need for additional system administration, effectively lowering TCO," noted Mark Santora, senior vice president of marketing at Network Appliance.
As with all NetApp solutions, service and support for the NetApp F880 and F880c are available through the Network Appliance Availability Advantage(SM) service program and the E-nabler three-year warranty, which offer on-site training and the replacement of parts in addition to 24x7 emergency telephone and 24x7 non-emergency Web support.
