Dot Hill Ups SANnet Capacity and Density

Thursday Jun 7th 2001 by Jennifer MacAdam

SANnet suite of data storage systems now support 180GB disk drives and up to 2GB cache memory

Dot Hill Systems Corp., a provider of carrier-class information storage and storage area network (SAN) solutions, announced two new enhancements to its SANnet suite of data storage systems: 180-gigabyte (GB) disk drives and up to 2GB cache memory (1GB per RAID controller).

According to Dot Hill, a 250 percent improvement in storage capacity and density can be achieved, at a storage cost of less than $0.05 per MB.

The company said the new 180GB drives and 2GB cache memory options are ideal for data intensive storage applications. The integration of the 180GB disk drives with SANnet systems allows for up to 1.8TB of high performance storage in a single 4U (7 inch high) chassis and up to 9TB in a single system. These high capacity drives make it possible to scale SANnet from 18TB in a single six-foot rack cabinet up to 144TB using multiple rack cabinets. The enhancements are currently available on new and existing SANnet systems.

"Common carrier and service provider customers require extremely dense storage in their central office, point of presence (POP), and colocation facilities, and our SANnet systems continue to lead the market in storage density and capacity," said Dana Kammersgard, chief technical officer of Dot Hill. "In addition, Dot Hill's latest product enhancements provide our customers with a tremendous savings in utility costs and floor space -- they can get more than twice the storage capacity in the same footprint without increasing their power bill -- and for less than a nickel a megabyte."
