Veritas ServPoint designed to transform industry-standard hardware into network storage appliances

Veritas Software Corporation today announced Veritas ServPoint, a family of storage software solutions that it said provides an open and scalable alternative to proprietary storage appliances.

The company said Veritas ServPoint software solutions, for network attached storage (NAS) and storage area network (SAN) environments, transforms industry-standard hardware components into open, enterprise-class appliances. The company views its solutions as alternatives to ready-made solutions that use proprietary hardware.

"Enterprises realize definite benefits in performance and scalability by moving to an architecture where storage intelligence is placed on the network," said Bob Passmore, research director for storage, Gartner. "This, combined with storage appliance software that allows the customer to leverage existing hardware, delivers significant cost of ownership advantages."

Veritas said Veritas ServPoint software is available immediately in either pre-integrated configurations or software-only versions to be integrated with the customer's choice of server or storage hardware.
