Melville, NY-based FalconStor Software pulled the wraps off of the latest version of IPStor earlier this week. The software now incorporates and complements the storage management features found in Windows Server 2003.

IPStor for SANs/NAS centralizes the administration of multi-vendor, multi-platform storage assets. Network administrators can access and manage their SAN and NAS via a Java console. New to the features list is native support for Windows Server 2003 storage services.

More specifically, the software incorporates the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) and Virtual Disk Service (VDS) features found in Windows Server 2003. Administrators using the server OS can now manage virtualized systems via VDS using IPStore's data aggregation and provisioning services. The software also utilizes VSS to create volume snapshots.

This results in an integrated SAN/NAS management environment, according to Bernie Wu, VP of business development for FalconStor. "The Volume Shadow Copy Service and Virtual Disk Service in Windows Server 2003 significantly reduce management complexity."

The software also provides data backup, replication, and recovery as well as dynamic expansion of storage volumes and data input/output provisioning across Fibre Channel and IP. IPStore's inherent platform-agnostic approach gives IT administrators a measure of flexibility when incorporating Windows Server 2003 into their storage mix.

The software also recently found a home in two models of the MaXXan Storage Appliances line, the SA100f and the SA200f. The storage management features of both models are powered by FalconStor's software.
