Quantum DX30 complements tape and provides faster backup and restore capability

Quantum Corp. recently announced a family of disk-based products that it said addresses the time required for backup, the confidence in successfully completing backups within the available backup window, and the latency associated with restoring backup data.

The company said the enhanced backup product family complements existing tape libraries, optimizes backup performance and provides seamless interoperability while preserving existing investments in backup hardware, software, and operational procedures. The first product in this family, the Quantum DX30, is based on the company's Adaptive Disk Array Management (ADAM) Technology platform.

Quantum said ADAM offers higher performance than traditional secondary storage but at a significant cost advantage to standard RAID. The Quantum DX30 is O/S independent. The initial version of the product will contain more than 3 terabytes (TB) of native capacity within a 2U (3-1/2-inch) rack mounted package. Because it emulates a tape library, the company said the DX30 can be rapidly implemented and easily managed with no software modifications or policy changes required. The product is currently in external beta test and is expected to be available in the second calendar quarter of 2002.
